They have a separate section for the thumb and thanks to the adjustable Velcro closure and the elastic cuffs at the wrists, the mittens stay in place. The zipper on the side makes it easy to put them on and take them off yourself. You can also attach them to clothing using the double hook, so you don't lose them when you are playing or take them off because it is too hot. When the mittens are not in use, you can keep them together with the hook.
